In Paris in 1935, a young Jewish woman married to an anti-fascist activist befriends her neighbor who is dating a far-right supporter.

Six Lovers

Nathan is convinced his partner Lucia is cheating on him; Lucia is having an affair with Lorenzo, a man half her age; Lorenzo is sleeping with his friend, Tom; Tom is kicked out of home and seduces Walter to get free shelter; Walter is no longer in love with Marilyn; Marilyn cannot accept rejection. Six interconnected people are interviewed about their most intimate secrets and opinions of love, for a university research project. Everything is recorded on camera. Suspicion about the research’s underlying intentions for the recordings is aroused when Marilyn kills herself and Lucia becomes pregnant to Lorenzo With the recordings acting as a catalyst, the lovers question whether the information they first gave freely is now controlling them.

Lamentations: A Monument for the Dead World

Lamentations: A Monument to the Dead World belongs to a 35-hour film cycle, The Book of All the Dead, which comprises the bulk of Toronto-based Bruce Elder’s filmmaking from 1975 to 1994. In ancient Egyptian culture, the Book of the Dead consisted of religious texts intended to help preserve the spirit of the departed in the afterlife — but in Elder’s reading, that comforting idea of continuity takes on a rather darker cast. Lamentations is comprised of a complex audio and visual patchwork: a philosophical meditation superimposed as text throughout the film; vignettes featuring a comical but disturbing Franz Liszt, a debate between Isaac Newton and George Berkeley, an angry, deranged man in an alley, and an arrogant psychiatrist; and a final search for salvation in the forests of British Columbia, the American Southwest, and Mexico’s Yucatan.

Love in an Underground Passage

Another film from the TV series "Polish Holidays", this time illustrating a holiday not entirely Polish, but already firmly rooted in the native reality - Valentine's Day. The script for it was written by Jerzy Pilch. For the famous writer, winner of the Nike Award, this is the second encounter with this cycle: earlier he wrote the script for the excellent "Yellow Scarf". His collaboration with director Janusz Majewski resulted in a story full of humor and charm, treating love with a slight wink of the eye and a touch of nostalgia. Wojciech Malajkat, who also played the main role, is a great merit.

Arcángel

This documentary is dedicated to Nina Perebeyeva, a woman who operates the only private dog shelter in Kazakhstan under deplorable conditions. Her compassion is a sharp contrast to the day-to-day activities of Vova, a vicious dog catcher and a drunkard who lives in the same town.
