Weekly Review No. 232: Maori Battalion Returns

The men of the The 28th (Māori) Battalion are seen returning to Wellington Harbour from WWII aboard the ship Dominion Monarch after their time spent serving in WW2. Their families wait to greet them with pōwhiri and hākari, whilst those men never to return are also remembered.

Dinosaur Hotel 2

Surviving contestants are reunited in the ultimate game to win $10 million. Only one contestant will survive and claim the prize as the others fall to the dinosaurs!

Fridge

Two Neds are harassing a drunken 'jaikie' and an inebriated resident confronts them. A stand off takes place until one of the Neds shuts a young boy in an abandoned fridge. They leave but threaten to return and burn down the tenement. The residents try to open the fridge but are unsuccessful. Panic initially sets in as they fear the young boy will die.

Fort Buchanan

Four seasons to tell the fluctuating moods and mores of a small community that shares its daily chores and life experiences in the military base of Fort Buchanan. In this imagined (perhaps dreamed?) location, peculiar habits respond to the needs of a peculiar environment. Roger, a fragile gay man, and his female companions, trying to cope with the absence of their husbands, go through their own brand of challenges for survival, with their own form of outdoor camaraderie, thought-occupying chat and DIY activities. Roger has a tough daughter who runs him ragged, but he has buddies willing to help: Justine, Denise, Pamela and Claudia-Joy.

An Amtrak train pulls out of Penn Station in New York City on a cold, sunny February morning. The train moves forward as the landscape changes—the East Coast giving way to the Midwest. Passengers fill their roles, the snow begins to fall and the next train station is announced, all while the light continues shifting, bouncing, swelling and slouching into eventual darkness.

Panic!

'Panic!' is Joost Lieuwma's newest project after his succesfull film 'Leaving Home'. Together with writer and director Daan Velsink he developed this comical short. A woman leaves home for a short holiday, when she has a panic attack imagining all things that can go wrong in her home in her absence. Her biggest fears do not come true, but still .. didn't she forget to ..... ?

Ombis: Alien Invasion

Peaceful, rustic Metzburgh is a quiet village which was a former industrial town whose glory days are long past after the collapse of Metzburgh Grain. Teenager Mark Lowe (Jason John Beebe) and his ex-girlfriend Lucy Greenheart (Sarah Manzella) are stuck in a lovers quarrel when a meteorite crash lands in the passive community. Glen (Robert Bozek ), an ex-employee of the grain silos who became homeless after the collapse of the mills, stumbles upon the fiery crash. Unaware that his find could be dangerous, he gets too close and a chemical poison sprays out of the meteorite, enveloping him. The chemical agent known as Ombis begins to turn his insides into a slimly substance. Unable to stop the spread of the infection, Glen runs onto the road where Mark and Lucy find him. The two take him to the only Doctor in town, Doctor D (Deborah Manzella) Mark and Lucy are shocked by their gruesome discovery and immediately contact the local Sheriff Thomas Brackett (Richard Satterwhite).

Willie Butler & The Hangdog Legacy

Willie Butler was a unique character. Originally from England he set down roots in New Zealand where he found his happy place. He established a Rock Climbers refuge originally born out of his kind heart and hospitality, and as a consequence, has left a legacy touching hearts and minds along the way. Willie Butler and Hangdog Camp are now both a part of New Zealand Folklore. This documentary goes a small way to telling the story of who he was, and what he left behind.

Michelle Wallace is a girl haunted by the demons of her past, having witnessed the brutal murder of her mother at the age of four. Sixteen years on she lives in a run-down boarding house looking forward to a future with her boyfriend away from the squalid life she has been leading. Michelle is befriended by her new neighbour, Charles Paskin, a mysterious middle-aged man. Unbeknown to Michelle, Charles is actually a British government assassin involved in a highly confidential operation. His mission is to retrieve government files about a top secret operation which has been stolen. He has been instructed to dispose anyone associated with these documents, but all is not as it seems. Through a bizarre turn of events, Michelle becomes embroiled in Charles's mission, and a fast-paced story of intrigue and suspense begins to unfold
